FL Friends of Music Meeting
November 13, 2007 The meeting was called to order @ 7:30
Mr. Kafer’s Report- the Marching Band and Color Guard will be going to National this weekend. The members will receive a packet tonight. They will have a run through on Friday at 2pm and a dinner at the High School at 3pm and then they will board the buses. Sat schedule has been pushed back a little. They will perform Sat at 1:12pm and awards are at 5:15 they will have a buffet dinner and come home. Arrival around 11:30pm. They are off Sunday. Pep Rally on Wednesday and Thursday is their last performance on Thanksgiving Day.
He is extremely pleased with their performance and their ranking, over all we placed 19th at the Northeast Championships.
Jazz ensemble auditions started today, disappointed in the turn out, needs Sax and piano players.

Fruit and Cheesecake sale starts 11/14/07 and delivery will probably be around the winter concert. We will use the same company for the fruit, because it was excellent last year. We will be using a new company for the cheesecakes; they offer a big variety of very tasty goods.

The Business elective has really hurt the music program. Mr. Kafer has proposed a new schedule to the district and is waiting a response. He would like our support at board of ed meetings, Coffee with the superintendent, etc.
The Spring Musical trip is schedule for 4/3 or 4/4; currently there is a hold up, probably due to the strike. The cost will be about $ 85.00
Ms Lucas Report- She will now be available by e-mail. She has a nice orchestra this year. Enrollment is up in the middle Schools and some of the elementary schools. She will try to get information about the students and upcoming events to Kathy to put on the web-site before they happen. Ms Lucas has money that has been gifted to her that must be spent, about $ 800.00. Concert date Dec 12th
She also feels the business elective has hurt the music program along with other cuts to the program mainly the removal of the 3rd grade strings program. She asks for our support and to push to have it reinstated.
She is currently pushing her students for FOM enrollment.
Old Business- A motion was made to disburse with the reading of the minutes in lieu we will post them on the web site and handing them out at meetings. The motion was passed
There was also a suggestion to post the agenda on the web site prior to the meetings.
Committee Reports
Clothing Drive- earned $535.99 we will have another one in the spring.
Treasures Report- copies are up front and Year to Date we have earned $ 1939.50 about half of what we earned last year.
Correspondence- None
Membership- 60 families so far. Can we compare to other lists and try to increase the membership.
Roadie Crew- Very busy this last month, everything is going well.
Marketing – 3 things to tell us. A $ 50.00 donation from Dunkin Donuts on River Road, A $ 100.00 from car care, and new video will go on the web site soon.
If you go on any web sites check their local or community news link and we can find out what they are willing to donate.
Publicity- Scheduled for photos Thursday before Nationals with The Record and something should appear on the Shopper this week. Dec 11th is slated for a ceremony at Borough Hall honoring the Marching Band/Color Guard at 7pm, if this is not good will try for Jan. The FOM Meeting will be afterwards and Cake and Coffee with the kids.
Web site- Posting updates, needs photos
Marching Band Dinner- May have a problem with the DJ, A mailing will go out; try to get those forms in.
New Business
Thanksgiving Day game/ Senior Recognition- will be prior to the game info to come from Mr. Kafer
By-Law Review – done in the spring, need 3- 4 people to review and make changes.
Winter ands Spring Concert-Elizabeth Skrabonja Chair Person- would like to promote more interest. Posters, Advertisements get more people to come to see the shows. Increase the concessions stand maybe a donation jar. Maybe a TV showing other performances. Will also work on trying to get some lighting effects. Info will be posted on the Web Site.
Fundraisers
Bake Sale- Nov 15th/ Dec 13th bring donations to school, suggestion to bring some honey
Lea Sophia Catalog Sale- Items on display and Catalogs available see Colleen
Honey Sale – ongoing through out the year Web site will say “Honey for the Holidays”
Dunkin Donuts and TCBY- save those receipts
Macy’s Day is being removed from the calendar
Upcoming Events
Still need chair people for a number of events: Pasta Dinner, Super 50/50, Maggie Moo’s Celebrity Scoop Night.
Janet needs a copy of the permit for Tag Day, sign up sheets will be put in a mailing and the importance of it printed on the back.
